It is worth noting that, Hindu or any other news agency didn’t pursue and find this story on their own but this came out of wiki leaks cables. The fact that US diplomats seeming have better insights into Indian politics than any of Indian News organizations is sad commentary on the state of Indian Journalism.
Hindu is actually reporting whole bunch of interesting stories lately, all based on the leaked US diplomatic cables.
Dear Mrs. Gandhi and all other politicians who want to control the Internet, I write to you as a concerned citizen, to request you not to try to censor the Internet. I am not afraid that you will succeed. Other governments in stricter regimes have tried to control the Internet, and they have failed miserably. The common people have proven time and again, that they cannot be controlled or brainwashed, whether it is by fanatical dictators, or overly concerned elected representatives, such as you and Mr. Sibal.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal defends his decision to ask Internet companies Facebook, Google,Yahoo and Microsoft to screen content to take care of sensibilities of our people !
I wonder if the officials asked Sibal to define “sensibilities of our people” but Google Transparency Report which makes public, requests made by countries for disclosure or deletion of data, gives a clear picture of what the Indian telecom minister might have mean’t. These chart explain it all
